Each of our releases are intentionally designed to display its given work, and not overcompensate. Like a painting hung on a white wall. We value being minimal because we believe in preserving and displaying the work of the artists involved. Our friend Ben Peck took these photos while we were screening the sleeves for Tori Kudo’s ‘Live At Harness’ cassettes. We want all of our releases to have human hands involved in the process to emphasize the individuality and humanity in it.

maher shalal hash baz
bio
Tori Kudo and an ever-changing cast of musicians is known as Maher Shalal Hash Baz.
Tori has been called a “naive” composer—assuming that title came from his use of amateur musicians—however, Tori is far from “naive.” He knows exactly what he’s doing. He created his own path, and has been paving the way since the ‘70s. The steadily growing, near obsessive cult following is what he has to show for it.
Tori is disenchanted with nostalgia. In a time when nostalgia seems to rule everyone’s consciousness, he scoffs at it. He’s been known to call himself a “punk,” but surely referred to his constant push against expectation.
As a matter of fact, he is more punk than anyone you know. I promise.
If you’re not familiar with MSHB, don’t you dare enter into the vast discography thinking you will be able to understand. Let it make you feel everything it’s supposed to.

Little Wings is the project of Kyle Field, a living legend among the inner workings of those in-the-know. As a celebrated musician and painter for a mystic “outsider” style of art, Kyle infuses a magical and surreal quality to everything he touches. But don’t get too comfortable. Just when you think you have him figured out he takes a completely different turn.
His discography spans decades. Releasing records on celebrated labels such as K Records, Woodsist and his very own Rad Records. Kyle’s albums, although ranging in fidelity, embrace a continuous tone that defines Little Wings. His lyricism is funny, but heartbreaking. His voice; loose, free and endearing.
Kyle isn’t bound to the characteristics of a decade or scene. Not because he avoided them, but because he’s transcended them.

tori kudo
bio
Tori Kudo is a musical pioneer from Japan whose inspired a unique cult following since the late 1970s. His music has often included elements of avant-folk, psychedelic, art pop and free jazz, and perhaps his most exclaimed musical characteristic is his openness to error in performance. Tori has cited this characteristic as purposeful, to reflect our imperfect life.
As a founding member of the band Maher Shalal Hash Baz, Tori’s profile outside of Japan has expanded through collaborations with beloved independent labels such as Geographic (UK), K Records (US), Chapter Music (AU), and OSR (US), just to name a few.
Live At Harness features 13 acoustic songs performed live by Tori Kudo and Mikiko Suzuki at Harness, an acoustic music bar in Asagaya, Tokyo on 6/26/2017. Their performance that night was vulnerable and captivating, with unique renditions of Captain Beefheart, Phil Phillips and Peter Perrett songs, as well as intimate versions of Tori Kudo’s work with Maher Shalal Hash Baz. Live At Harness is truly a special gift to the world of music enthusiasts and fans closely acquainted with Tori Kudo’s catalog.

Moone Records Exclusive Interview with Tori Kudo (of Maher Shalal Hash Baz)
Tori Kudo creates some of the most heady, yet free-spirited compositions I have ever heard. Spanning decades, his work simultaneously feels ‘out of this world’ but still very human. On one hand, he is letting us in on a secret. Something we shouldn’t be allowed to listen in on. A vulnerability that is not often expressed. We are left with a childlike sense of freedom and possibility. Like anything is obtainable. It stirs up optimism for the future. The head spinning amount of emotion that is carried through his compositions require your complete attention. So pay attention. Someone like Tori only comes around once in a lifetime. You don’t want to be the one that missed out.

strobe talbot
bio
Strobe Talbot formed in 1999 in Portugal. Its members have never lived anywhere near each other at any point since then, yet they remain friends. Through its 18 years as an ensemble, Strobe Talbot has only become itself to ever-greater degrees. Their latest album, Funland, provides ample evidence to support this assertion.
It can and will be said that at least ⅔ of Strobe Talbot are better known for other things. Jad Fair is renowned for his wide-ranging musical collaborations (Teenage Fanclub, Danielson, R. Stevie Moore, Yo La Tengo, et al.) and his visual art, but he leads and sings for Half Japanese—a group originally formed in 1974 with his brother, David, but vital and productive (with different members) to this day. One of those members, Mick Hobbs, has played guitar in Half Japanese since 1990; Mick’s music career began with new-wave aggregate Family Fodder and RIO-affiliated group The Work (featuring Funland guest, Tim Hodgkinson, late of Henry Cow), and has involved a bewildering variety of projects. His own group (Officer!) is now receiving attention for its marvelous oeuvre, after having existed for 35 years. Benb Gallaher knows that no matter what he’s done, he’s really done it this time.
Strobe Talbot started as it is now—a trio of Jad Fair, Mick Hobbs, and Benb Gallaher. They were younger in the past (this is typical), but their interpersonal and musical chemistry is very much the same as it was when at their outset. Generally, Benb gambols atop and plotzes upon the drums, Mick enjoys oblique and uniquely appealing rapport with all ilk of spronging stringed things, and Jad issues de facto proclamations with winsome verve from atop the plinth thereby provided. People cool enough to dig it can’t imagine not doing so.
As a somewhat-unheralded group, Strobe Talbot has experienced many of the bumps and vagaries associated with obscurity, but has been unable to extinguish its informal drive to share and incite joy through their music. Living as they do thousands of miles from each other, they are seldom able to convene, with writing and recording occurring within applicable spasms. Funland reflects this in that it comes from a variety of sources and situations. Its identity, though, is ineffably singular.

WAX CASTLE

[table id=53 /]
bio
Wax Castle is the brain vomit of Danny Levie. The product of constant agitation from the deteriorating state of our broken humanity. The songs are anger infused sound envelopes created for the sole purpose of inviting chaos into your head. The lyrics are nihilistic in nature and address current issues while instilling an overall feeling of impending doom.

Stinkweeds 30th Anniversary
April 1st, 2017 was a day not only about music, but community. People of different ages, races, backgrounds, etc. came together in celebration of Stinkweeds 30th anniversary. It was a time of celebration and fun as children were running around, people enjoyed good food, prizes, and cold beverages on a hot day while bands of different genres played their hearts out. Even if one did not know the lyrics of the songs being played it was almost impossible not to clap your hands, bob your head, or simply sway your hips along to the groove of the music each artist so uniquely displayed. It was an unforgettable day.

gene tripp
bio
Gene Tripp is the world that artist and composer, Jay Hufman created for his words and sounds to exist in. You can hear his low and trembling voice echoing through the six realms of existence, and delivered by a spell. A melancholy landscape storied with failure and escaped dreams. Terrifying hallucinations soundtracked with walls of noise, roaring fuzz and sideways acoustic guitar plucks. Hufman is unmanufactured and void of tricks. His music is propped up by the cold hands of darkness and then crushed by the weight of emptiness.
The Ghost of Gene Tripp marks his 3rd release under the name, and is his most lavish work to date. It’s bleak, untethered, and transgressive. This album captures the essence of his magic and puts it on full display. It’s just breathtaking!
